The name Ayllusuyu is from the Quechua language of Peru - ayllu is community and suyu is region - loosely translated to say, "the region of communities together." It is based in the healing traditions of Peru. The healing happens when a person consciously reveal aspects of one's self that have been buried. It helps a person to realize that he/she doesn't have to work so hard at changing who he/she is because that can't be done. What a person can do is release the dense forms of beliefs one was given so that life can be lived with the strength of a person's true self to guide the way. This will and does change the way a person is in the world and with one's self. Fran works in the time-honored ways of sacred ceremony of the ancient Inca and the other indigenous people in Peru. When they go to the high Andes, usually at 16,000 feet, they camp there and work with the mountains themselves in sacred ceremony. Wherever they go, it's always in sacred ceremony. Sometimes, in the mountains, the Q'ero, who are the direct pure-blood descendants of the Inca, are with them. When they are in the jungle, they work with a shaman who was born and has lived there all his life. Fran has stayed in the jungles for months at a time so she knows of its primal life energy and how life-awakening that is. All those teachings are brought back here and offered in workshops and other gatherings. Controversial, hopeful, heartwarming and sometimes shocking Rodger's film reveals the diverse beliefs with which we were raised, and subscribe to solely because we are told to. He questions why we often blindly "believe" without direct experience or personal introspection. "I was fed up with the childish schoolyard mentality that permeates this world - I call it the "My God Is Greater Than Your God" syndrome - where you have grown men flying airplanes into buildings shouting "God is Great" - where you have the leader of the free world telling the BBC in 2003 that he invaded Iraq because God told him to -- None of these concepts made any sense to me," states Rodger, "So I decided to go around the world and ask people what they think." Rodger produced, directed, wrote and shot the film with an incognito skeleton crew consisting of one other - Patrick Ellis, a line producer tripling as sound man and B camera operator.
